The aim of the project is to quantify microplastic emissions in surface water bodies. A major requirement is having suitable input-data. Even if the data basis for emissions of wastewater treatment plants is sufficient, we still lack data from combined sewer overflows as well as storm sewers. To close this gap, we are installing automatic discharge-proportional samplers. The samples are analysed at the RWTH Aachen, which is our project partner. We build up on the existing structure of MoRE (Modelling of Regionalized Emissions) in order to model and visualize input-related microplastic emissions on the level of watersheds.
