The main objective of the project is to develop a simulation-based planning tool to evaluate advanced treatment technologies for the removal of organic micropollutants (OMP) on municipal wastewater treatment plants. With the newly developed instrument the removal efficiency of advanced treatment can be rated for selected OMPs in consideration of competitive effects of dissolved organic carbon (DOC), the effects on other treatment stages can be estimated (e.g. as a consequence of discharge excess powdered activated carbon into the aeration tank) and energy demand can be evaluated as part of an ecological balance assessment.
