Description

Macroinvertebrate

Due to deficits in the saprobic assessment of wide stretches of tributaries in the upper Rhine valley, north of Karlsruhe, the potential ecological reasons have to be closely investigated.

For the relevant rivers, a large set of multidisciplinary data is available. Ecological, water chemical and biological parameters create the basis for a profound assessment of interrelations of those parameters. These relations should be used to understand the dominating processes in the systems and to derive potential management options or measures, which could have a positive influence on the ecological status. A focus lies on the investigation of sediment composition, oxygen budget and macroinvertebrate communities.

This work will be conducted in the framework of a running research project of the Karlsruhe City Council.

Task

The work encompasses the work with a large data set of various sources and data types (water quality, catchment information, data logger readings (oxygen and temp.) etc.). The major task is to connect the named information and derive management options to improve the ecological status of the water bodies.

If necessary further data can be obtained from field measurements.
